Is it safe to eat snow?

Eating snow is a very natural behaviour for young children and part of how they explore their world. A child would have to eat a lot of snow for it to be potentially harmful to them. Children should avoid playing in visibly dirty snow, near roadways and directly below buildings.

Studies have shown that snow does take up airborne particulate matter and pollutants; however, there is no comparator for acceptable lead concentration in snow (therefore testing snow is not recommended).
