Trail Area Health & Environment Program (THEP) Onboarding Guide 101

Key Actions

There are several important actions that THEP carries out in the community, as shown below. All THEP community programs are free, and residents can sign up easily online.

Healthy Families Healthy Homes

Expectant families and all families with children aged three and under are offered in home visits.

Visits are focused on education and prevention of lead exposure for young children.

Families receive supplies to help reduce in-home dust and are offered indoor paint testing for lead.

Soil and Built Environments

Homeowners can receive soil testing and, where needed, soil management for their yard, exterior paint testing for lead, and free supplies for lead-safe home renovations.

Community Engagement

THEP team members actively participate in community events, sharing information about reducing exposure to lead as well as communicating on sulphur dioxide.

Children’s Blood Lead Testing

Twice a year, THEP offers a voluntary children’s blood lead testing clinic, following up with ways to reduce exposure if a child has an elevated blood lead level (defined as >3.5 ug/dL).

Air Quality

Air quality in the Trail area is consistenly monitored, and operations are adjusted when needed. Teck continues to invest in technology to reduce lead and sulphur dioxide emissions and improve community air.
