THEP Purpose

THEP’s purpose is to support the community of Trail and surrounding areas to live, work, and play in an area influenced by smelter air emissions.

THEP Values

THEP has six key values:

Health

Community

Partnership

Science-based

Accountability

Trustworthy

Each of these is explained below.

Value: Health

  • The program prioritizes reducing health risks and empowering individuals to manage their health.
  • Program resources are targeted at reducing people’s health risks and empowering families and others to support their health journey.

Example: In-home visiting for families.

Value: Community

  • Community members are integral to success, from programs on the ground to participation in decision making, and have the largest proportion of representation on THEC.
  • Program goals and activities are reviewed by the community through regular public consultation, and the Program actively contributes to community health and wellbeing.

Example: Community representatives on the governance committee.

Value: Partnership

  • THEP uses a partnership approach in governance and Program delivery.
  • It has been recognized for the effectiveness of its collaborative multi-stakeholder model of industry, government, and community working together for mutual benefit.

Example: Partners meet to set expectations and support bigger picture work.

Value: Science-based

  • Program activities are grounded in scientific research and evidence to ensure effectiveness.

Example: Study and research providing evidence to guide and inform decision-making.

Value: Accountability

  • THEP is transparent and accountable to the community and stakeholders through open communication and decision-making.

Example: Online and hybrid meetings to support increased participation over geographic distances.

Value: Trustworthy

  • The program maintains transparency and honesty in its actions and communications with the public and its partners.

Example: Survey of program participants every two years.
