The Trail Area Health & Environment Program (THEP) is a comprehensive, collaborative and integrated program that has evolved since 1989 to improve the Trail area environment and to promote the health of the community, related to smelter operations. The vision is a community with healthy children and families, a clean environment and a thriving economy. The THEP is a community-led program and community engagement is fundamental to its functioning. This document describes in considerable detail the five components of operation and the key goals and objectives for each: Air Quality; Family Health; Home and Garden; Property Development; and Parks and Wildlands. Also presented are the essential processes in place for program governance, delivery, evaluation and community engagement. This document includes a stated intention to establish five-year cycles of setting new goals in consultation with the community and updating the program document going forward.
