THEP ensures incremental costs for soil testing and disposal of smelter-related contamination are not borne by homeowners. Soil testing and soil disposal application services are provided free by THEP. 

If soil is approved for disposal at the McKelvey Creek landfill, the costs for loading, transport and tipping fees are payable by the landowner. These costs would also be borne by landowners for uncontaminated soils from outside the THEP Soil Management Area.
