What does this mean for my patients? What are the health issues related to lead exposure?

  1. There are no known safe levels of lead (Pb) for children.
  2. Even low levels of Pb in blood have been shown to cause lower IQ, attention deficits, and reduced academic achievement.
  3. Children are most impacted during early years (less than 6), when they have higher hand to mouth behavior and their bodies are developing rapidly.
  4. Pb exposure is not a diagnosis. Many factors contribute to a child’s development, lead is an exposure to consider for children living in the Trail area.
