How are the City of Trail and other local governments involved in THEC?

THEC is a select committee of the City of Trail, and the Mayor of Trail or a designate is the Chair of THEC, which meets five times per year.  The Chair provides political liaising as needed with higher levels of government, Interior Health and media. The Chair meets with Teck’s Superintendent of Environmental Remediation and THEC’s Lead Facilitator about once a month to prepare for these meetings.

The Lead Facilitator of THEC is hired on contract by the City of Trail, approved by City Council and funded by Teck. The purpose of the role is to keep the various parts of THEC and THEP connected, communicating, engaged and on track. The facilitator acts as a neutral liaison between program partners of THEP as well as between Committee members.

The City of Trail implements air quality measures, mainly additional dust control in the City (funded by Teck).

City of Trail meeting spaces are made available for THEC and THEP meetings when possible.

Members of THEC include elected officials from the Village of Warfield and RDKB Areas A and B. When there are proposed changes to program activities, elected officials are communicated with, informed and engaged with potential decisions.
