MUST KNOW:
You need a soil assessment and a ground-cover evaluation to get started.
Prioritization for soil management is based on soil assessment results, ground-cover evaluation results and the age of the children present in the home.
Priority is given to families with children under the age of 12 as they are most at risk from exposure to lead. Homes with children who are under six years old are the top priority. Vegetable gardens are also prioritized. Some yards within the Soil Management Area may require no action beyond testing.
SHOULD KNOW:
Homes with children are being prioritized as children are more likely to ingest lead from soil than adults. Children are at greater risk from the effects of lead.
