How is soil at schools addressed?

School yards in the Trail area are maintained to a high standard and generally have excellent ground cover. Soil at school playgrounds and playing fields has been tested, and ground cover is assessed. The current prioritization approach for soil management applies to elementary school playgrounds.

School-aged children are older so may not have the same exposure risk as younger children. Maintaining ground cover at school fields and playgrounds is important to minimize exposure.

If you notice poor ground cover at school grounds, please contact School District 20 or the Community Program Office.

THEP recommends washing children’s hands (and yours) after outdoor play and before eating.
