What was the Trail Lead Task Force and the Trail Lead Program?

The Trail Lead Task Force was the predecessor to the Trail Area Health & Environment Program (THEP) and Committee (THEC). The Task Force was in place from 1990-2000 and had a similar make-up of representatives as the multi-stakeholder THEC.

The Task Force undertook research to better understand the exposure routes of lead related to elevated children’s blood lead levels in Trail. The Task Force findings were the basis for the development of THEP in 2001 and the associated THEC which helps the community and partners come together to understand the complex nature of lead exposure in the Trail area and find the best methods to address the challenge.

The Trail Lead Program supported general community-wide education, began annual children’s blood lead testing clinics, provided family case management to reduce exposure where relevant, and implemented community dust control and greening.
